The Rework Eliminator for the K2

The Rework Eliminator kit  from Unpcbs to me is not an option if you plan on building a K2 it's a must have. If you are not familiar with the Rework Eliminator here is what this product can do for you. This kit allows the K2 to be setup and ready for any add on you want to put in the K2. Let me clear the waters a bit......if you build a bare bones K2 with no options but later you want to add some options,  it my require you to  remove some components from the K2 in order to add the option.

With the Unpcbs kit  there is no de-soldering on the K2. In a nut shell you unplug the unpcb board and plug in the K2 option. There is another great advantage to this, if you think you have a defective DSP filter (or any other option) board you simply unplug the DSP filter and plug in the unpcb board and see if the problem is fixed.   If you are thinking about an Elecraft K2 Kit  this add-on is well  worth the money!!! I just have to jump on the soap box  for a short time again.....On the top (pic to the right) of the noise blanker rework board you see some resistors. These resistor (or other components) would normally be on the K2 board and have to be de-soldered to instal the NB board option from Elecraft. With the rework board you unplug the rework board and plug in the NB board. If there ever is a problem with the noise blanker (or any other option the rework kit looks after) you unplug it and plug in the rework board. You K2 will now work but without the NB option. Without the rework board you would have to re-solder in the components you removed for the rig to function properly. There is also a SSB unit that Unpcbs sells they call it the internal mic adapter. and it is what is says......this unit when installed in the K2 by just removing the K2's side panel and moving some jumpers around on the Mic adapter you have available to use up to at least 66 mic's! I am going to be adding a page dedicated to the Rework Eliminator with more pictures and information about the product.

Inventory parts page added

Just finished adding a new page to the blog....the Inventory parts page. As you go through the page I wanted to bring across the importance of taking the time to do an inventory of ALL kit parts. I hoped to have made the system I use easy to understand and maybe a system you also can use.

Importance of doing an inventory

Wrong resistors sent with K2
This sure is a step in the kit building that takes time and when it comes to kits is not the whole idea to get the KIT DONE so you can play with it!! I feel that taking the time to do an inventory is so important that I am going to dedicate a page to it on this blog. (If your wondering this page is in progress as we speak and will be up live soon) This is my second K2 that I have built and up to this point I have built (just counting Elecraft) 10 Elcraft kits to date. Now having said that have I ever had missing parts......yes I have now and then. The upsetting thing is a missing part can hold up your build but if you know of it in advance the part can be on it's way as you are completing other parts of the build. An even more of a problem is the wrong part was put in the kit and now you instal it and your Elecraft kit is done and not doing what it should do! As I was doing the parts inventory on my latest K2 I did find two incorrect resistor packs. I emailed Elecraft parts just to confirm as they often have had to substitute parts and all is well. This time I was told that yes in fact these are the incorrect parts and the proper ones were sent out same day to me. Since this was found early and the parts are in transit my build will not be slowed down at all.

Just added a new page

The tool page has been completed and is now up and running as a page on the blog. This by all means is not an exhaustive list of what a kit builder may like to have. I feel I have given the must have's along with some eye candy as well. If you have any more ideas of items I may have missed to comment letting me know. This way I can add them to the list. More to come as I work away at it!!

Tools to consider........

I'm working on a new page to add to the blog entitled "Tools" I wanted to start out by outlining what I have in the way of  tools and gad-gits  I use for building kits. I see  "tools of the trade" are items that really you should not go real cheap on. Having said that you don't have to remortgage the house to have a decent setup. Don't cheap out on the tools because a portion of your kit building success will depend on your equipment used to assemble the project. If you are going to drop close to 1,000.00 on a K2 when it's all said and done you sure as heck want it to work to the best of it's ability. The other thing I have learned over time and experience is that good tools do a good job and cheap tools just end up taking the pleasure out of the project.  The page will include some items I have that are sorta luxury items in kit building as well. So hold on the page will be popping up soon!

I just wanted to take the opportunity to welcome you to the Elecraft K2 blog. I am in the process of getting this blog up and running. I just created it on Feb 11 2013 and it is going to be following my K2 Build. As well I am going to be adding interesting links that relate to the Elecraft K2. At this point the blog is a work in progress and will be fully functional soon. If you have any questions and suggestions please email me at
I already have a fully functional blog dealing with my many interests  in ham radio and this blog has been up and running for about 3 years.....stop by and check it out as well. Until next time and next time being when this blog looks and acts more like a blog thanks for stopping by!
